Exploring Furman's History: My First Podcast Experience
Exploring Furman's History: My First Podcast Experience
For my first podcast, I decided to focus on history, more specifically the history of my university, Furman. The project required creating a nonfiction narrative story podcast. I interviewed Dr. Brandon Inabinet to do so, he was my tour guide for the history of Furman over the summer. We sat down together and I let him share in depth details on significant events and historical artifacts from Furman's past. It was a fascinating conversation and I learned so much.
After getting this information I had to craft a compelling story, so I took parts of the interview that went into interesting stories, historical insights or fun little myths about campus. I then recorded myself going into even more detail for a more interesting and educational podcast. To bring it all together I imported it into Adobe Audition, which was a new tool for me. I watched numerous tutorials and enjoyed experimenting with all the different features, hoping to become very knowledgeable when it comes to using this software in the future. I want to add this to my skills in Adobe, after working on Illustrator and Photoshop I can now increase my skills through Audition.
This whole experience I had a lot of fun with and was able to really tap into my creative side. I never felt restricted by the rubric and was able to really explore new ideas and interest other people with this podcast. I gained a deeper appreciation for storytelling and audio editing which I hope to continue to develop for future projects. Creating this podcast not only strengthened my technical skills but also deepened my connection to Furman’s rich history.
